Our children deserve the chance to reach their full potential

AFASE at school is owned and operated by Karen
Robinson. She is a Certified Parent Advocate in Special
Education and has over 20 years experience as a parent
advocate. Karen sits on the Board of Directors of the Ontario
Association of Education Advocates and served on the
Chapter Leadership Council of Autism Ontario - Durham
Region for three years.
She has four children, two of whom have special needs. Her
31 year old son was diagnosed with a developmental
disability, and her 18 year old has autism.
For many years Karen juggled work within the corporate
world while advocating for her children's special needs. After
a while, it became apparent that she could not continue to do
both. She became dedicated to becoming an advocate for
appropriate special education and set out to research and
learn everything she could about navigating the special
education system in Ontario.
She realized that many parents don't have the time, the
knowledge, or the skills to be effective advocates for their
children's educational needs and decided that she could help
other parents by providing services such as advocacy
coaching, letter writing, needs statements, ensuring good
Individual Education Plans, delivering workshops, and
providing support at school meetings and appeals.
Hence the birth of AFASE at school.
